Botany and Zoology together make up Biology, half of the paper. From 2021 to 2024 the paper had 200 questions in 200 minutes, with a choice of 10 out of 15 in Section B of each subject. Since NEET 2025 there is no Section B: all 180 questions are compulsory.

Marking scheme

  • +4 Correct answer
  • −1 Wrong answer
  • 0 Question left unanswered

Marking more than one option counts as a wrong answer. Since a wrong answer costs a mark, guessing blindly lowers your expected score; eliminate options first.

Who can take it

  • Age: at least 17 years on 31 December of the year of admission. There is no upper age limit.
  • Qualification: Class 12 (or appearing) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
  • Class 12 marks in PCB: 50% for General, 45% for General-PwD, 40% for SC, ST and OBC.
  • Attempts: no limit on the number of attempts.

Qualifying percentile

  • General: 50th percentile
  • General-PwD: 45th percentile
  • SC, ST and OBC (including PwD): 40th percentile

Qualifying only makes you eligible for counselling. The marks needed for a government MBBS seat are much higher and change every year.
